Salt in the Bible

Did you know that salt was one of the most valuable commodities in the ancient world?  Used to preserve the harvests upon which civilization depended, wars were often fought over its control.  It was so valuable that Roman soldiers were sometimes even paid in salt, but is this what Jesus had in mind when he called us “the salt of the earth?”   Learn about its surprising connection to life, hospitality, and sacrifice and how recent scientific discoveries have revealed an even deeper truth. As we discover the true meaning of salt, we can become a “salt shaker” in the city, pouring ourselves out on behalf of others.
